Class 4
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Keri Wahl and I teach fourth grade at Meridian School. My credentials include a B.S. in Education and experience teaching elementary school in Arizona, Utah, Germany and most recently at Meridian.
I would like to take a minute to familiarize you with my teaching philosophy and the curriculum for fourth grade. I believe students should enjoy a happy and secure classroom environment. It is my goal that students learn with a purpose, that the material presented is clear and applicable to their lives. This is accomplished through varied methods, such as thematic immersion, simulations and group projects. Self-esteem and personal accountability motivate students to learn at their level. The motto of class four states: we respect learning, we respect ourselves, and we respect each other.
Fourth grade curriculum focuses on the study of Utah. Core subjects including reading, writing, math, science and history are integrated to show their relation to Utah. Students will study: Authors and Artists; Geography; Biology; Economy and Government; Culture & Technology; History; Health; People, Media & Utah in the World. In addition, math, writing and reading are done on a daily basis. The A Beka math program is used, where I provide as many manipulatives as possible to bridge the gap between concrete and abstract understanding. Critical, leisure, assigned and personal reading is done regularly. A homework log is filled out daily so parent and teacher can communicate effectively.
Students also participate in activities including a written biography of a grandparent, Native American Pow Wow festivities, field trips, class plays and lots more.
As a parent, your participation, enthusiasm and support are vital and welcome in our class. I look forward to meeting you and your student.
