Welcome to Meridian Pre-Kindergarten! PreK

We are Karen Reeder and Mary Taylor, the teachers for Pre-K and we are ready and eager to provide a new and exciting experience for your child. Our Pre-K students enjoy an enriching curriculum of activities, field trips, games, and stories that open and uplift young minds and provide an excellent foundation for future academic success.

Each week, we focus on a letter of the alphabet. To reinforce the letter, children have the opportunity to participate in an exciting letter program. This is a project that involves parents interacting with their child to create a special letter box or poster highlighting the letter of the week. Parents sign up for the letter of your choice and find pictures (for the poster) or items (for the box) which begin with that letter. Children are very excited about this process; it provides a great opportunity for parents and children to have fun and learn together.

The Pre-K children also look forward to their opportunity to be the VIP (Very Important Person). Parents choose the week and on the Monday of that week, bring a poster that tells about their child. The poster could include pictures of your family or vacations or other pictures your child would like to share. The VIP child will be our special helper and line leader all week. Parents can also make the week special by sharing their child's favorite things with the class, such as an activity, favorite food, singing songs, or reading a favorite story. We have found that this week can go far in helping to build a positive self-concept for your child among his peers.

Meridian's PreK children learn to write using the D'Nealian Manuscript Alphabet. Our letter curriculum involves mathematics, reading, shapes, colors, and science. We use field trips frequently to expand and reinforce concepts. For example, during the week that we study the letter "f", we talk about and count "fish and frogs", take a trip to the "fire station", study the aspects of "farms", and end the week focusing on "families" with Grandparents Day. In addition to our classroom curriculum, Pre-K has certain times during the week that we go to specialists, including music, dance, yoga, P.E., and library.

Our Pre-K classroom is a safe, cheerful place for little ones to explore and grow. We hope your child will join us!
